ROOM (#2) SPOILERS

            I recently finished a book called, "Room"by Emma Donoghue. I'm glad I finally finished the the book because I was anxious to find out the ending of this magnificent book. Of course we all were expecting the event, in which Jack and Ma were rescued, to occur. But what made this book amazing and very well-written is the fact that the author didn't end the story or else the whole book would've been so predictable. The author would've left the reader without knowing Jack's experience in the real world.

           As stated in my last blogpost, I believed that Jack would have a harsh time in the real world. He in fact did experience things, he never would've imagined of. Like in one scene, he would ask his mom where all the other things were and tell her that they didn't exist. You can tell that Jack only believes that the objects that were in "Room" only exist, and still kind of has a mental thought that everything he saw on TV was just "made-up" like the stories Ma reads to him.

          In another scene, his Mom said that they would get him new pants and he replies with, "For sunday treat?". This shows that Jack still hasn't adjusted to his new life, which was expected because he had just recently escaped "Room". He still thinks he should follow the concepts that were in "Room" which is; Ask for things you need for sunday treat and hope that Old Nick will get them for you. What makes me happy is that he is still like "plastic" as in he can still recover since he was rescued at a young age. Like the doctor had said, " he can forget".

         In conclusion, it was well expected that Jack would have a trouble trying to adjust to a whole new world. A world he has yet to explore. Friends he has yet to make. Jack now can live a better life, now that Old Nick is out of the picture. I wish I could read a book about a older Jack and how much he has changed and his experience on adjusting to this new world. I would read that.
           

ROOM

            I recently began reading a book called 'Room' by Emma Donoghue. So far, it's been so enjoyable to read and all I can say is that this book is extremely well written and just simply AMAZING. This book is about a woman and her 5 year old child, Jack, who live in a 12 by 12 foot room. Her child, Jack, refers to her as 'Ma'. When she was about 19 years old, she was kidnapped by a man known as Old Nick who had lured her into his truck claiming that his dog was in need of medical attention. He later knocked her out and isolated her in what they now call "Room".


         As Ma begins to tell him stories about the "Outside", you can tell Jack doesn't really understand and believe that there's an actual world outside of their "Room". He believes that it's all pretend and that stores(ships, planes, people, etc) only exist inside "TV". What makes this book really enjoyable to read is the fact that this book is written in Jack's perspective. Usually, books like these would be written in the mother's perspective but never have i ever read a book written in a 5 year old's perspective which made this book really intriguing.


        This book makes me think about the problems several kids seem to face today. It saddens me that Jack has no idea whatsoever of what Old Nick does to Ma nearly every single night. He doesn't understand what's going on, and it makes wonder what's going to happen when he gets out of "Room". If he ever gets to that is. They had already failed their first attempt to escape "Room", I'm not sure if they'll succeed on their next one. Old Nick's character just sickens me in general. No doubt about that, he's just a soulless person.

 
       Jack doesn't deserve to go through something like this, no child does. Jack has been isolated his whole life and he doesn't realize it. He thinks "Room" is perfect and good. Which is obviously not true since he should be living a normal life in "Outside". He doesn't understand "Room" isn't as good as it seems to be. It makes me think that he's not going to enjoy life in "Outside" since he'll have to adjust to several new customs and he'll have to learn how to interact with other people besides his Ma. The only person he's ever interacted with was his mother. He hasn't interacted with another human being, which tells me that he'll have a hard time doing so when he gets a chance.
