"Pro-Anorexia On Twitter : Site Allows "Thinspiration" Accounts

                  I recently read an article called, "Pro-Anorexia On Twitter : Site Allows 'Thinspiration' Accounts", on Huffington Post. This article is mainly about the "Thinspiration"(Pro-Ana or Pro-Mia) accounts that are still allowed on Twitter, which may influence several teens. Such accounts may influence the reader to want to become 'beautiful' in which in the minds of anorexic teens is being extremely thin.


              According to this article, several Pro-Ana twitter users post pictures and quotes with the hashtag #Pro-Ana or #Pro-Mia(which stands for Pro-Bulimia). Posts such as; ''I want nothing more than to be skinny. Be THAT beautiful girl everyone takes a second look at. ''. This twitter post, available in the article on Huffington Post, shows me just how many teens, adults and children can believe that being 'super skinny' is the ideal body shape. It sickens me a lot, to believe that many people get eating disorders because of what the media today represents as 'beautiful'. Usually on television, you see very tall, skinny girls represented as 'beautiful', but you never really see other types of beauty shown. Another post like, "Starting fruit diet today! Only fruits for 1 week! Who wants to join?", sickens me as well because it tells me that these girls don't even want to eat fruit which is extremely healthy and can help maintain a healthy diet, which in my opinion is better than not eating anything at all.


         If one wants to become skinny(beauty comes in all shapes and sizes), but not extremely skinny in which you're considered severely underweight, they should have a healthy lifestyle such as exercising daily, eating enough fruits & vegetables, etc. They shouldn't just eat nothing, that's not healthy.


      Pro-Anorexia sites and accounts encourage the readers and viewers lose an unhealthy amount of weight and also tell them to not seek help for their eating disorders. But looking at the other side, these sites and accounts are a place where girls can build a bond with others who feel the same way. In a way, they could help each other by talking amongst people who feel the same way, but exchanging ''thinspirational' quotes, discouraging treatment for eating disorders, and losing an extremely unhealthy amount of weight is just not right.




   The author wants me to think about this problem, by showing us some of girls' tweets. The author doesn't really have a side throughout the article because she does mention what Elizabeth Nolan Brown said about the Pro-Ana accounts & sites, because Elizabeth herself used and went on these sites & accounts. Elizabeth Nolan Brown had argued, " Is part of this about swapping eating disorder tips? Of course. but in addition ... it's about building friendships, building community, building a support system. It's about realizing that you are not the only one who feels and behaves this way".


   Well after reading this article, I've started thinking about this problem more. I could see what these teenagers are going through because I was once anorexic, myself. I used to believe that being extremely skinny was considered beautiful, and the media may have influenced me to believe this. I had lost an unhealthy amount of weight that year, and I'm glad I came to realize that what I was doing wasn't good or else I still would've been that girl who believes that she'll never be beautiful because she isn't 'thin enough'




     

The Fortunes Of Indigo Skye (Final)

"The Fortunes Of Indigo Skye", by Deb Caletti, author of 'The Nature of Jade',
is about how after receiving a 2.5 million dollar tip from a customer, Indigo Skye(waitress at Carrera's) begins to change due to the drastic rise in money. How has this changed her? Is showering her family with gifts enough to make it seem like she's changing in a good way? Honestly, i'm not sure, so much has changed throughout a course of several climatic events. 

I'll only mention one of these 'drastic' events because i don't to give
too much away. What I really didn't expect to happen is Indigo to break up with Trent to date somebody more upper class like her. I didn't really enjoy the scenes Indigo had with her upper class boyfriend because i felt she belonged better with Trent because unlike 'rich' guy here, Indigo actually liked Trent for him. She obviously only likes Jason, her 'rich' boyfriend, because of his high class traits and i guess she felt that she'd get along with a guy like that now that she herself has millions (2.5 million -.-).  

What I enjoyed about one of their scenes together is how Indigo started to miss Trent, her family, and her friends. She has drifted so far apart from them, it's like she doesn't even know them anymore. They don't even know who she is anymore (not literally) because of how much she's changed over a rather short period of time. Indigo begins to miss the feeling she gets when she kissed Trent, when she kisses Jason she feels nothing. This shows how she starts to miss her 'old' life, the life she had before the vespa guy gave her a 2.5 million dollar tip. I mean many people who changed due to a drastic rise in money would feel some sort of regret. Especially because of the people they lost because of this sudden change in personality. 

The Fortunes of Indigo Skye

          I recently began reading a book called, "The Fortunes of Indigo Skye", written by Deb Caletti, the author of 'The Nature of Jade'. So far, she received a 2.5 million dollar tip from a mysterious man who has recently began coming regularly to the restaurant she works in, Carrera's. As written in the blurb, Indigo is said to have changed drastically due to the sudden rise in money. I can see this happening, i mean people do always say, "Money changes you".

        Well, since I haven't exactly finished reading the book, I don't really know how she changes. But I can talk about how it's possible she'll most likely change. Indigo Skye is the average young adult, working on medium-wage, of course she'll take advantage of this money she received, even though at first she is slightly hesitant. She wants to return the money at first, but she's later convinced by her customers and boss to take advantage of this luck. I can predict that throughout a course of several events, she'll start to change in attitude and personality. She'll be spoiled with several new things, and of course she'll buy a new car for her boyfriend, Trevor, to replace his old, rusty one.

       As I said, she'll change, and you'll the development to her new self. She'll probably also feel the need to change her lifestyle now that she's "high class". She'll always return to her old self once she gets her head straight realizes that this is not "her".

Catching Fire

(Eh, it's kind of weird to make a blogpost on Catching Fire when i already made a blogpost on Mockingjay. I re-read Catching Fire before Mockingjay of course. So, my blogposts are like out of order. Whatever :P)

Catching Fire

     I've just finished re-reading, "Catching Fire", the second installment to
Suzanne Collin's Hunger Games trilogy. Well, it starts where "The Hunger Games" finished, basically. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are the victors of the 74th Hunger Games, and their back home getting ready for the victory tour. But their victory is short-lived once the the 3rd Quarter Quell nears. The card is read, and you would never guess what is so special about this years Quarter Quell. Victors of each district will be reaped, to participate in the Hunger Games once again. Victors of the Career districts don't worry much, most even want to go back into the games, but Katniss worries the most out of all the victors. She is the only female victor of District 12. Well she make it out yet again, or has her luck ran out?

Well, I just wanted to say that by reaping victors of the Hunger Games,
 the Capitol is basically saying that nobody is safe. Victors, people who won the games, aren't safe that just makes the Capitol seem even more superior to the people of Panem. To have 24 victors fight each other to the death must have horrified the people of Panem, the people that they probably have grown to admire and possibly love are being sent into the games. Showing that not even the best of the best is safe in this nation. It shows that the Capitol has more control than they thought they had. 

 In conclusion, the Capitol is just basically sending a scary,
cruel message to the people, 'There were two victors last year, but that doesn't mean that anything is going to change'. This could possibly be true because Katniss and Peeta did set off some sort of spark in the 74th Hunger Games. By threatening to kill themselves, so the Capital doesn't have a victor.
